Motorola Xoom unboxing

Here is one of the first videos showing the unboxing of Motorola Xoom tablet with a quick review from the author.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/gadgets/reviews/motorola-xoom-unboxing-and-lightning-review?src=rss

Quick Summary from the post above
  • No flash support on Xoom yet.
  • Lot of glare on the screen.
  • Honeycomb looks good.
  • Price tag of $799 with no contract seems a bit too expensive for this device.

You can read an extensive review of Motorola Xoom on SlashGear website,

http://www.slashgear.com/motorola-xoom-review-23135670/

The SlashGear review does a very good job to cover most aspects of the device. It is definitely a good read if you want to know what to look for in a tablet. It notes that the battery life seems to last for 8-9 hours under heavy usage. That seems decent, but definitely not better than iPad. Also, Xoom has a mini-HDMI port instead of a full HDMI out port.
Here is the video of Slashgear review.

What do you think of Xoom compared to iPad and Notion Ink Adam? Beats the current iPad in every spec in my opinion, but not much better than Notion Ink Adam or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1"

HTC Flyer hands-on video

HTC Flyer introduced in WMC 2011 looks impressive even though it does not have Honeycomb OS yet. It has a 7" screen, 1.5GHz ARM processor, 32GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera. What do you think, is this one of the better tablets out there?

Looks like this tablet does not have a Wifi-only version which means expensive 3G contracts from cellphone carriers. Not sure what the final price would be when it hits the stores. Meanwhile, enjoy the hands-on videos below.

iPad 3 rumor (or should it be iPad 3D)?

iPad 3 (please note, this might have been a typo by the author. It should be iPad 3D) image found in this site looks amazing. Can't wait for Apple to announce iPad 2 first. Enjoy the picture on the link below.

Rumor alert
This seems like a rumor more than anything. I found the original source of the image to come from this blog - http://www.maclife.com/article/features/future_apple_design_2013_ipad_3d

The author was gazing into the future and predicting that Apple could make a 3D iPad. There is no evidence so far to suggest that Apple would indeed make such a device. As most things with Apple, tons of hype and secrecy. Impressive picture though.

Tablets over Smart Phones?

Another blog that validates my belief that Tablets can rule the computing device market for next 4-5 years.

Surface 2, HP TouchSmart, Tablets Suggest Future of Touch - Desktops and Notebooks - News & Reviews - eWeek.com

Most manufactures are bringing out devices that have Touch input as their standard interface. Out of these, the majority of devices would be smart phones, tablets, desktops, navigation systems on cars, etc. Tablets and smart phones would compete for market share and it can be argued whether they can co-exist. Popular theory is that they are devices that serve 2 different purposes have completely different market segments and hence can peacefully co-exist (Just like how cell phones, desktops and notebooks co-exited in much of 90s). But, I would beg to differ.

Three major groups of customers that use Touch based devices will emerge in the next few years

Intel MeeGo Tablet User Experience Tour

Intel MeeGo Panel seems similar to Leaf concept in Notion Ink Adam.

It does not have HDMI out so you won't be able to stream 1080p HD content on to your TV. Here is another Hands-on video from Slashgear.

Notion Ink Fan: Another New Update & Application Switcher Usage

Notion Ink Fan: Another New Update & Application Switcher Usage: "Today's post by Rohan showed us that Adam tablet production is moving along at the factory.  And at the same time Notion Ink developers..."

Please read about the Battery draining service that affects Battery Life of Notion Ink Adam in the comments section of this blog.

I would like to hear from you about what Battery Life test you would like to be performed on Adam. Would it last an entire trip from US to India (anywhere between 20-35hours total travel time) without re-charging? Please add your comments below.

Notion Ink Adam - First Take

NOTION INK ADAM

Notion Ink is a start-up Tablet device maker based in India. Notion Ink Adam is the first product to be launched by NI and is available through pre-order email invites only. NI has started their second round of Pre-orders for Adam in second week of Feb, 2011. Here is the link to NI blog site where you can register your email ID to get the pre-order invitation, http://notionink.wordpress.com/2011/02/09/next-round-of-order/

The first pre-order was done in Dec 2010 and has generated mixed reviews from users all over the world. The major challenges facing the first pre-order had been order processing(Banks canceling credit card payments due to Scam alter triggers), softwares update issues which bricked devices, battery life issues, etc.

The following blog on notioninkfan.com shows the steps to be followed in case your Adam was bricked by a software update,
http://www.notioninkfan.com/2011/01/warning-do-not-update-your-adam.html/ (This link has since been removed by notioninkfan.com)

Software update has since fixed lot of the bugs initially reported by early adopters. NI has responded well to the first pre-order delays and issues related to software bugs. There was a lot of bad press during the first few weeks of the device reaching the hands of customers. Overtime, most of these issues are dissipating and owners seem to be pretty happy with the device that they have paid good money for.

Battery Life

Many users have complained about the low battery life of Adam.
